How to come up with topics to write about

What to write about? Some days I wonder what I will be writing about. I challenged myself to write for 30 days a blog post each day. Considering my other daily activities (being mother, owning horses, etc.), it means I have only limited time each day to write. Sometimes there only a little time slot available (like today). For me, there are two ways of dealing with the topic of inspiration: The masculine approach The masculine approach to writing is to set a moment in time, sit behind my computer, and find a topic to write about. It’s about being effective (doing the right things) and efficient (doing the things right). Not going to bed until you finish what you…

How to clean a mailbox

After a turbulent time with many new experiences, it feels like time for reflection and evaluation. Resting a little before the rollercoaster takes me on another round. Yesterday I felt an urge to clean my house, as a physical act of my mind that’s clearing up. Today I felt like cleaning up more. My email account piled up messages for some years and because of the mess it wasn’t very nice to look for old messages, and I started to forget answering important emails, and getting distracted by unimportant stuff. How to clean a mailbox? Here’s what I did: Start somewhere First I made a new folder for emails and and called it ‘old inbox’. I put all messages older…

Clean house, clear mind

As I believe, there are different ways to clean your house. Now I don’t mean the coice between a rag, a cloth or a duster, but the differences in mindset while cleaning your house. 1. “Must clean the house!” You clean the house because you believe you have to. It’s Monday and on Mondays you vacuum your house. It doesn’t matter if you look forward to doing it, it doesn’t matter if it is necessary, all that matters is that it should be done. Likely your mood won’t be very pleasurable. Probably you are moody while doing it, having negative thoughts, lowering your energy level and that of others. Have kids? Maybe your kids are getting annoyed when you are…

Emotions during processes of change

How do you master new habits? How do you grow as a person? There are four steps to take to change yourself: 1. Unconsciously incompetent At first you don’t realize there’s something to change. You lack the knowledge or the experience or the references to be aware a certain habit is not helping you as a person. And since nothing bothers you, there’s no trigger for change. Let’s use the example of smoking. You may be a smoker and be totally unaware of the health risks smoking implies. You have enough money to buy cigarettes and matches, you like to smoke and you love the social interaction with other smokers that smoking brings. Why would you stop smoking if there…

Easy vegan comfort food

My 30 day vegan challenge was a success! Actually, it wasn’t hard at all to eliminate all animal and dairy products from my diet. I love cooking and improvising. So some restrictions are nothing but a challenge to invent new recipes 🙂 I love to share some of my favorite vegan comfort food recipes. These recipes are all very easy to make, take less than half an hour and require no complex ingredients. Vegan fruit pie This recipe is not my own, but I stole it from Steve Pavlina’s blog. This fruit pie is actually raw when you are using raw nuts. I have no clue where to get raw nuts in my country, so I just used the nuts…

Did you laugh today?

What are the things that really make you laugh? Your kids, a cute puppy, watching Monty Pyton on television? You may be able to laugh about yourself. Maybe you can just laugh without a cause. Laughing is healthy Laughing is a very healthy thing to do. While laughing, you activate more than a hundred muscles throughout your body. More oxygen flows to your body’s cells, the bronchia are ventilated, catabolic processes are advanced, muscles relax, the heart and circulation are stimulated. Your brain stops producing stress hormones and starts producing hormones like dopamin, endorphins and serotonin, hormones that relax your body and mind and give you a happy feeling. There is even research that indicates laughing stimulates the immune system and…

Looking for confirmation

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. (Charles Swindoll) One day you’re at the top of the world. Everything is great. You meet great people. Maybe even some real special ones. Maybe you gave someone your number or email address. Than you go home, and all of a sudden you’re not so sure about anything anymore. You feel insecure. Next morning you switch on your computer and start to look for confirmations. Maybe there’s an email, a tweet, a message on Facebook to sooth your heavy feelings. Nothing… Maybe the other person is busy and they’ll send you a message later. You check your computer many times that day. And the next day.…

Me time for moms*

*Read dad for each mom if you’re a guy. All of this applies for you too of course 😉 In your life you have many roles to play. If you are having kids, you are probably a mother (guys, read father here 😉 ), a partner, (self-)employed, a friend, a housekeeper and maybe you have other roles like player of some kind of sport, painter, hiker, etcetera. It’s not easy to distribute time equally  for each role. Often, the roles that give you pleasure and time to relax are the roles neglected. It’s just the way it goes Wake up early, stressing to get the kids ready for school, give your love a hug and a kiss (don’t try to…

What is unconditional love?

You know what love is, right? It’s that tingling feeling you feel for people that really touch your heart. Your kids, close friends… There are also things you love. Cars, hiking, watching television. You can also love an animal or the view from your balcony. Clearly, there are different kinds of love. For all types of love there is one common thing: love can be conditional or unconditional. Types of love The way you love you children or your partner differs from the way you love your favorite television program. But the way you love your children also differs from the way you love your best mate. I borrow a text my friend Koreen Clements wrote on this topic (I recommend her…

Do I have to change myself?

There are things I want differently in my life. I want myself to grow and develop. I wish for changes. But changing is something I’d rather avoid. Can I change myself and my life without changing? Guess what will happen when you do what you always did. You get what you always got. If you really want change, you have to change. You have to be the change. But changing is scary! What’s the worst thing that can happen? Your life will change? But that’s what you want! 😉 We all have this imaginary space around us, called our comfort zone. As long as we stay inside that comfort zone, we feel safe. We know what’s in there, we know…
